Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Middle Atlas – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga

Your 4-day tour from Fes to Marrakech begins with pickup from your hotel, riad or another agreed location in Fes.

Leave Fes and travel south toward the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Your first stop is Ifrane, a picturesque mountain town often nicknamed the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine-style architecture and mountain setting.

Continue toward Azrou and the surrounding cedar forests. Depending on local conditions, you may have the opportunity to see the Barbary macaques that live in this region.

The journey continues through the Middle Atlas toward Midelt, with beautiful mountain scenery along the way.

As you travel farther south, the landscape changes dramatically. The green mountain environment gives way to arid valleys and desert landscapes.

Continue through the spectacular Ziz Valley, known for its palm-filled oasis and dramatic scenery.

Later, pass through Erfoud, a town particularly famous for fossils and its connection to the geology of southeastern Morocco.
Continue toward Merzouga, the gateway to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes.

Arrive in the Merzouga area and check into your accommodation.

Depending on your arrival time, you can relax and prepare for the following day's Sahara adventure.

Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Camel Trek – Sahara Desert Camp

Wake up in the Merzouga region and prepare for a full day in the Sahara.

After breakfast, begin exploring the area surrounding the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Your private desert excursion takes you through the changing landscapes around Merzouga, with opportunities to stop for photographs and discover the unique environment of the Sahara.

Later, return toward the dunes and prepare for your camel trek across Erg Chebbi.

Ride through the golden sand dunes as the afternoon light changes the colors of the Sahara. Your camel trek takes you toward your desert camp, where you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the dunes away from the towns.

After arriving at the camp, watch the Sahara sunset, followed by a traditional Moroccan dinner.

Spend the evening around the campfire enjoying local music and the spectacular desert sky.

Day 3: Merzouga – Khamlia – Nomadic Families – Desert Landscapes – Merzouga

Wake early for the opportunity to watch sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes.

After breakfast, continue your exploration of the Merzouga region.

Visit Khamlia, a village well known for its Gnawa musical heritage. Meet local musicians and discover the traditions behind this distinctive style of Moroccan music.

Continue toward the desert areas around Merzouga and visit a nomadic community when available. This provides an opportunity to learn about traditional desert life and the way nomadic families adapt to the Sahara environment.

The route can also include a stop near the seasonal Merzouga lake, depending on water levels and local conditions.

Continue through the desert landscapes, with time for photographs and to appreciate the vast scenery surrounding the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Return to Merzouga in the afternoon.

The remainder of the day is free to relax, enjoy your accommodation or spend additional time experiencing the desert.
This extra day is one of the main advantages of choosing a 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour: instead of immediately leaving the Sahara after the camel experience, you have time to discover the region and experience its culture.

Day 4: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and continue west toward the spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco.

Travel through the desert and oasis landscapes toward the Todra Gorge, one of the most impressive natural attractions in southeastern Morocco.

The gorge is surrounded by enormous limestone cliffs and provides a spectacular contrast to the open desert landscapes you experienced around Merzouga.

Continue through the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations, palm groves, traditional villages and historic kasbahs.

The route continues through the Valley of Roses and along the famous Road of 1,000 Kasbahs.

Continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara and known internationally for its film studios and spectacular surrounding landscapes.

Depending on your timing, visit Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco's most famous fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Explore the historic earthen architecture and narrow passages before continuing toward the High Atlas Mountains.

Cross the mountains through the Tizi n'Tichka region, with opportunities for scenic stops along the way depending on weather, road conditions and timing.

Continue toward Marrakech.

Your 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour ends with drop-off at your hotel, riad or another agreed location in Marrakech.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Fes to Marrakech desert tour?

The tour lasts 4 days and 3 nights, traveling from Fes through the Middle Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert before reaching Marrakech.

Is this a private Fes to Marrakech tour?

Yes. The tour is private and exclusively for your group, allowing greater flexibility with stops, timing and the pace of the journey.

Does this tour include the Sahara Desert?

Yes. The itinerary includes Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes, with a camel trek and an overnight stay at a Sahara desert camp.

Why choose 4 days instead of 3 days?

The fourth day gives you significantly more time to explore the Merzouga and Erg Chebbi area. Instead of treating the Sahara as a quick overnight stop, you have time for desert exploration, Khamlia, nomadic culture and relaxation.

Can I avoid the camel ride?

Yes. If you prefer not to ride a camel, a 4x4 transfer can be arranged where available.

Is 4 days enough for Fes to Marrakech via the Sahara?

Yes, but it remains an active itinerary because you are covering a considerable distance between Fes and Marrakech. The additional day in Merzouga makes the journey considerably more comfortable than a rushed itinerary.

Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes. Reggies Adventures can customize private tours according to your interests, accommodation preferences, onward destinations and available time.
